Conditions of carriage

Draft for review

This page is a working draft for a UK same day courier. Every figure in it — notice periods, payment terms, retention, cancellation charges — is a proposed default, not a position anyone has settled. It must be reviewed and signed off by the operator's solicitor before the site goes live. Set BRAND_LEGAL_REVIEWED_ON once that has happened and this notice goes away on its own.

These conditions apply to every consignment we carry. Booking a delivery means accepting them.

1. Who we are and what we do

LUNAR CORPORATION LTD trading as Zip Couriers (“we”) provides same day courier services across the United Kingdom mainland. We carry goods as a carrier for reward, using self-employed couriers engaged by us, in vehicles under 3.5 tonnes.

2. Your booking

A booking is a request until we confirm it. We may decline any consignment, in particular where it is on the prohibited list, is inadequately packaged, exceeds the vehicle's stated capacity, or cannot be loaded by one person without specialist equipment.

You confirm that you are entitled to send the consignment and that the information you give us about its contents, weight and value is accurate.

3. Prices and payment

The fare quoted at the time of booking is fixed for the job as booked. It includes the goods in transit cover described in our insurance page.

Additional charges apply only where they arise and are itemised separately: Congestion Charge, ULEZ, waiting beyond 10 minutes at each end at 35p per minute, parking the courier must pay, additional stops, and a return leg charged at the original fare.

Account customers are invoiced monthly on 30 day terms from the date of invoice. Non-account bookings are payable in full when you book, by card.

4. Collection and delivery

Collection and delivery times are estimates given in good faith and are not guaranteed, except where a guaranteed service has been expressly agreed and priced. Traffic, weather and access at either end affect every job in this city.

We deliver to the address given. Where nobody is available, the courier will wait 10 minutes free of charge, attempt contact, and then follow your instructions: a safe place, a neighbour, a further attempt, or return to sender. Healthcare consignments are never left unattended.

5. Liability

Our liability for loss of or damage to a consignment is limited to £500 per consignment unless higher cover was agreed in writing before collection.

We are not liable for consequential or indirect loss, including loss of profit, contract, opportunity or reputation, nor for delay, nor for loss or damage arising from inadequate packaging, inherent vice, or anything you failed to declare.

Nothing in these conditions excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else which cannot lawfully be excluded.

6. Claims

Claims must be notified within 7 days of the delivery date, or of the date delivery should have taken place, with the job reference, photographs and evidence of value. See the insurance page for the process.

7. Cancelling

You may cancel at no charge before a courier is allocated. Once a courier is on the way to collection, half the fare is payable; once they have arrived, the full fare is payable. If you cancel part way through a job, you pay a proportionate amount for the part of the journey already made. Once the delivery is complete there is nothing left to cancel.

Every booking records the collection window agreed for it, and asks you to confirm that you want us to start straight away and that the job cannot be cancelled once it has been completed. Your confirmation is repeated back to you, with the time you gave it, in the booking email.

To cancel, ring or email hello@zipcouriers.uk with your job reference. A clear statement is enough. If you would rather use a form, this one will do:

Cancellation form — complete and return this only if you wish to cancel.

To LUNAR CORPORATION LTD trading as Zip Couriers, 124-128 City Road, London, England, EC1V 2NJ, hello@zipcouriers.uk:

I hereby give notice that I cancel my contract for the supply of the following service:

  • Job reference
  • Ordered on
  • Your name
  • Your address
  • Signature (only if sent on paper)
  • Date

[For legal review: two provisions of the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 bear on this and you should decide which one you are relying on.

Reg 28(1)(h) takes contracts for the carriage of goods out of Part 3 altogether where the contract provides for a specific date or period of performance. A same day booking, with the collection window now recorded on every job and stated in the booking email, very likely qualifies — in which case there is no statutory cancellation right here at all.

If that is wrong, reg 36(2) applies instead, and the right ends on full performance only where the customer made an express request to begin and acknowledged in advance that the right would be lost. The booking flow now captures both, stores them against the job with the version of the wording shown, and repeats them in the confirmation email as a durable medium under reg 16. Confirm the wording and decide whether this page should state the position outright rather than leaving it open.]

8. Law

These conditions are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.

[For legal review: consider whether to adopt RHA Conditions of Carriage rather than bespoke terms, as most UK road carriers do. If so, this page becomes an incorporation notice plus the trading-specific additions, and the liability limit must be reconciled with the RHA weight-based limit.]
